Hatteras Sky Founder Amy Michaelson Kelly speaks at University of Tennessee

The Anderson Center for Entrepreneurship and Innovation (ACEI) is a pivotal resource within the Haslam College of Business at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. Established in 2010, ACEI is dedicated to fostering an entrepreneurial culture by developing student skills, offering experiential learning opportunities, conducting meaningful research, and connecting students with mentors and resources to successfully launch and grow new businesses.

On February 11, they invited one of Hatteras Sky’s founding principals, Amy Michaelson Kelly to speak on her journey as a lawyer, as well as her transition and success as an entrepreneur.

At the Chief Executive at Hatteras Sky, a real estate development firm specializing in multifamily and hospitality assets across the United States, she oversees various facets of the company, including development, asset management, hospitality operations, design, communications, and fund sponsorship.

Before transitioning into real estate, Ms. Kelly had a distinguished legal career in Atlanta, primarily at Greenberg Traurig, LLP, an international Am Law 15 law firm. In her practice, she represented large companies and government entities in complex litigation involving real estate development and other business ventures. Notably, she secured the release of a Georgia prisoner wrongly sentenced to the death penalty and eliminated an unconstitutional infringement on voter rights.

“What an inspiring afternoon I had yesterday with these students from the Anderson Center for Entrepreneurship & Innovation at the University of Tennessee,” said Michaelson Kelly. “I was there to share my experience, but I received so much from doing it – I left feeling GREAT about our collective futures. These students are so talented, smart, and ready for the world (and frankly, put college Amy to shame). I was also really impressed with UT – it’s a different place since I was on ole Rocky Top. Every faculty and staff member I have met in preparation for my contributions this semester has been innovative, professional, and firmly committed to the mission of ensuring student success. It made me love UT more.”
